Bill Tepper

  Bill Tepper, Co-Founder
  Chief Executive Officer
Bill Tepper grew up in the tiny town of Priceville, Alabama. Bill attended the University of Alabama and earned a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering and spent 2 terms as a coop at NASA. After graduating from Alabama, Bill earned a Master of Science in Engineering, specializing in orbital mechanics, from the University of Texas at Austin in 1986.
While at Texas and at his first engineering job with Dynetics, Inc. – a defense contractor in Huntsville, Alabama – Bill applied his knowledge of mathematics, orbital mechanics, research methodology, and programming to many high profile projects for the US Army, Air Force, and DIA. One FORTRAN library that he wrote at Dynetics (the Simulation, Tracking, and Error Propagation (STEP) package) is still in use today. In early 1992, Dynetics asked Bill to move to Dayton, Ohio to open a new facility to more directly support Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

After having been in government-funded work for over 10 years, Bill discovered that his real desire was to work on commercial products that more directly improved people's lives.

Bill moved to Atlanta to work for Scientific-Atlanta's Satellite Networks Division on their Demand-Assigned Multiple-Access (DAMA) satellite telephone system. Bill initially server as configuration management specialist, but later got his first serious experience in embedded C by porting the Master Signaling Channel Unit (MSCU) to new low cost hardware.

In January of 1998, Bill joined Motorola's Platform Software Division as an embedded test engineer – his first official testing position. While at Motorola, he honed both his software development and testing skills by automating the testing of the Timeport P935.

Bill joined a very small startup called LDC Direct in May 2000. Initially recruited as LDC’s only embedded software engineer, Bill saw the need for engineering leadership became the VP of R&D by October. It was under Bill's leadership that a testing program was established.

In February of 2001, Bill joined the Wave7 Optics software engineering team. Bill first led software development for the last mile gateway and then led development of low level embedded software (booter, OS, drivers, etc.) until that work was effectively complete and that team was disbanded in February of 2002. Bill joined Wave7's test engineering team and started by organizing the test documentation and test cases. He then tackled specific test projects, first embedded DHCP functionality, then broadcast video performance and later taking responsibility for testing the Last Mile Sentinel GUI management system. While at Wave7, Bill was by far the most prolific submitter of defect reports, finding 40% of all defects on a 5-person test team.

As the CEO of Provare Technology, Bill is responsible for overall vision and direction of the company as well as for sales, marketing, and human resources.
